Welcome to a cozy restaurant, where longtime couple Amy and John are celebrating their anniversary. Despite the seemingly joyful occasion, their relationship has seen more hardships than highlights in recent years. The atmosphere, however, changes dramatically when a psychological bombshell explodes. The leading roles are played by Eline Havenaar and Sytse Faber.
Director Bastiaan Rook and screenwriter Martijn Daamen drew inspiration from the timely theme of mental health. Together, they developed the concept for the short horror film “Amy & I”, which takes place entirely within a single location.
The challenge lay in keeping the film visually engaging with minimal camera angles — yet the filmmakers are confident they succeeded. Featuring powerful performances by Havenaar and Faber, the film offers an intriguing glimpse into the world of Amy and John.
With its focus on mental health, Amy & I slowly unravels a mystery that begins with what appears to be a normal relationship but gradually takes a darker turn. The film not only explores the surface layer of the couple’s dynamic but also reveals the deeper aspects of their psyche.
By carefully unveiling the mystery and maintaining tension throughout, Amy & I offers a thoughtful exploration of mental health — an experience that invites viewers to reflect on the complexity of human relationships and emotional well-being.
